About the role

The Hartford's Employee Benefits IT Team is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to modernize enterprise applications across Java, AWS, and GCP-based AI enablement. This role partners with business, architecture, and engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions aligned to Hartford standards and technology roadmaps. This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week

What you'll bring

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of hands-on Java/J2EE experience, including Spring Boot, REST/SOAP services, JMS, XML, JSON, JDBC, Flink, Apache Camel, or related frameworks.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, cloud automation, build specifications, and repeatable deployment patterns.
• Strong software engineering experience designing, building, and supporting secure, scalable, maintainable applications in an enterprise environment.
• Strong AWS experience across application infrastructure, including Lambda, SQS, SNS, S3, API Gateway, IAM, CloudWatch, CI/CD, observability, and production readiness
• Experience applying GenAI or agentic AI across engineering workflows, including code generation, test automation, workflow orchestration, and productivity improvements.
• Ability to communicate across the organization and influence leadership, architecture, product, business, and engineering stakeholders.

• AWS certifications are a plus.
